Conceived in Borneo, born in the Netherlands, raised in rural South Texas, and rooted in San Antonio since 1974, Rudi Harst has spent five decades bringing words, music, and attentive company wherever people gather.
The Story
A Voice Finds Its Room
Rudi was shy, which is often where performers begin. Church solos at six and the title role in Amahl and the Night Visitors at eleven gave him a safe place to discover that a voice can be both refuge and invitation.
When the Beatles appeared on Ed Sullivan in February 1964, the future arrived through a television set. The rest of his life tilted, quite sensibly, toward a guitar.
At Trinity University, Rudi studied psychology, spirituality, movement, and meditation. At night, he tested the same large questions in coffeehouses, where the audience could order a second cup and disagree.
The Open Room
Music, Reflection, and the Radical Notion That Everyone Belongs
Europe and America, then back again. Album by album and room by room, Rudi built a life around the durable intimacy of one voice, one guitar, and people willing to listen.
In 1992, Rudi and his wife, Zet, cofounded Celebration Circle of San Antonio. Its openhearted approach to spiritual life made room for music, reflection, community, and the radical notion that everyone belongs.
Ten albums and the book Hurry Slowly carry the same alert, lightly comic voice. The subject is spiritual life, but the evidence is found in ordinary days, which is where most of us keep ours.

Ready or Not
Ready or Not gathers memory, comedy, aging, original songs, and lived spiritual practice into a generous evening. It treats getting older as material for attention, not apology.
